Live Briefs

Real organisations. Real experience.

Small businesses and community organisations post a real problem, share their story as a case study, offer a guest talk or give feedback on learners' work. Students, graduates, career changers, volunteers, lecturers and trainers take them up. Everything is checked before it goes live.

How it works

Three ways in

Everything is small on purpose, so busy owners and busy people can both say yes.

Organisations

Post or offer

Ten minutes to post a problem, or to offer your story, a talk or feedback. I check it with you, then it goes on the board.

Solvers

Take one on

Say in a few lines how you'd tackle a brief. If the organisation picks you, you get the details, do the work and receive their feedback for your portfolio.

Teachers and trainers

Use it with a group

Run a brief with a class or workshop, teach from a case study, book a guest talk, or invite an organisation to hear your learners' pitches.

Four ways organisations take part

Brief

A problem to solve

People take on a real problem and hand back ideas or a draft. You give a short briefing and feedback at the end.

Case study

Your story to teach from

Share a decision you faced, with a few figures. It is written up with you, and you approve it before lecturers and trainers use it.

Guest talk

20 to 30 minutes with a group

Online or in person. Talk about your work and answer questions from people who may take on your next brief.

Hear pitches or review work

Join a challenge-day panel or comment on finished plans. Learners get real-world feedback and you see fresh ideas.

Brief sizes

Class task30 to 60 minutes in one class session, often one part of a bigger brief.
Sprint2 to 5 hours, one person, done remotely within two weeks.
Project10 to 30 hours, a small team, usually as part of a course.
Challenge day3 to 4 hours together on one day, ending in short pitches.
The board

On the board

Briefs to take on, plus case studies, guest talks and feedback panels to request. Everything is free. How responding works.

Responding

How it works

  1. Respond privately. Tell the organisation in a few lines how you'd tackle it. Responses are never shown publicly.
  2. The organisation chooses. They pick up to three people or teams, or a class, usually within a week. Everyone hears back either way.
  3. Get the briefing. You receive the details and agree a hand-in date.
  4. Hand in, get feedback. The organisation rates your work and you keep a feedback record for your portfolio.
  5. Case studies, talks and feedback panels. Send a request instead. I check it, then put you in touch with the organisation to agree the details.
Rules for everyone responding

What we ask of you

  • Follow through. Do what you sign up for, or say early if you can't.
  • Keep confidences. Don't share anything the organisation marks as confidential.
  • Your own work. If you use AI tools, say so and say how.
  • Be respectful. Polite and professional in every message.
  • Credit the organisation. Name them whenever you use their case study or talk, and use it only for non-commercial teaching or training.
  • No payment either way. Nobody pays or is paid through Live Briefs.
  • Under 18? Please respond through your teacher or youth leader.
